Supply Chain

Once again, Supply Chain was the backbone of our operations, allowing WFP to be at the forefront of global efforts to save and to change lives. Aviation cargo more than doubled, while shipping transported 14 percent more supplies. A total 81 percent of food purchased was from developing countries, while vital goods and services – such as fuel and telecommunications equipment – were bought from 156 countries.

Through Bilateral Services, WFP worked with UN organizations, governments and NGO partners to strengthen health supply chains. Examples in 2019 include transporting 12,500 cubic metres of health items worth US$23 million by ship, truck and aircraft to over 500 locations in Yemen on behalf of the World Health Organization.
