Funding
Donors provided record contributions of more than US$8 billion in 2019, though the funding gap of US$4.1 billion was US$1.3 billion higher than in 2018 as rising food insecurity outstripped contributions.
In 2019 and 2018, only 5 percent of WFP’s total contributions was fully flexible. Multi-year, unearmarked contributions mean WFP is better positioned to direct resources quickly to the areas of greatest need, build resilience, strengthen partnerships and address root causes of hunger over the longer term.
